ART NICHES
Art that solves problems

Fitting Art Niches and large walls:  Receded into walls and defining a set space, niches of any size are notoriously difficult to fit as size and proportion must fit these equidistant to their perimeters.

Most people give up, compromising with something which inevitably looks out of place.  We leave nothing to chance, everything is carefully measured to fit including canvases with floating frames.

'Norfolk Island Reminisce'

Client Brief - After sourcing art for two differently sized art niches had proved impossible, Matthew and Belinda requested we design something natural, light and airy to match their hallway featuring a natural pebble tile feature.

Our Strategy - While discussing rocks, wind and sea within the nature theme, we discovered that Matthew was born and raised on Norfolk Island and had fond memories of his childhood there.  Photos from the family proved that we could create seascape artworks to fill each of the niches and create relevance to the family.  We used a colour palette incorporated in carpets, soft furnishings, stones and timbers found in their hallway and adjoining spaces.  You can see our reference photos before the actual paintings in the slideshow.

The Outcome -  'Norfolk Island Reminisce' inspired Matthew and Belinda to take their family on a holiday to Norfolk Island!  They now love their hallway and the artworks have given their children a better understanding of where their dad comes from.  The original seascape paintings act as windows to another time and place, opening up their hallway and bringing in natural looking light effect while solving the problem of these 2 odd sized art niches.

‘Africa!’

Client Brief - Create art to perfectly fill the art niche, enhance the home’s elegant style and use animals as a favourite theme of this family from South Africa.

Our Strategy - We picked up on the richness of the decor and eagerly designed ‘Africa’ based on a book brought back from the family’s holiday at Kruger National Park, showcasing particular animals and plants that they loved. Metallic gold was brushed into the background so that lighting would make it glimmer, like a real sunset. Four diagonals increased the depth of the artwork's perceived size, while the floating metallic gold frame tied it all together. Notice that we matched the client's candles with the art.

The Outcome - Our client loves her original painting and how it has improved her entry way and given it a more dramatic effect on entering.
